The PD Academy program is a structured development program combining role-specific training with an applied engineering project. Join Ford’s Underbody Systems engineering team in a CAD/CAE role supporting the design and basic structural evaluation of underbody components and subsystems. You will use CATIA V5/V6 to create and manage 3D parts and assemblies, and support introductory component-level structural analyses under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Create, modify, and maintain 3D part and assembly models for underbody components using CATIA; support engineering release activities as assigned.
Contribute to design reviews and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA) discussions for brackets, shields, and structural reinforcements.
Under senior-engineer guidance, set up and run basic component-level linear static analyses using available FEA tools.
Support simplified mesh, boundary-condition, and load setup and review basic stress and displacement results.
Compare analysis trends with supplier calculations, historical information, or physical test data when directed.
Work with Core Engineers, Design and Release engineers, CAE specialists, and cross-functional partners to incorporate feedback into design iterations.
Document design changes, analysis assumptions, and results; maintain organized CAD/CAE data in accordance with team conventions.
Provide task updates and support optimization studies as directed by the project lead.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Coursework or experience in mechanical design and solid mechanics, including stress, strain, and static equilibrium.
- CAD coursework or experience with CATIA V5/V6 or comparable software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or Creo.
- Understanding of design fundamentals such as tolerances, fits, fasteners, and material selection.
- Introductory exposure to finite element analysis and an FEA tool such as ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperMesh, or CATIA Generative Structural Analysis is an advantage.
- Microsoft Office skills; scripting in Python, VBA, or MATLAB is a plus.
- Strong communication, collaboration, time management, and willingness to learn; intermediate-to-advanced English proficiency for global collaboration.
