ford supports veterans

Ford has a long history of supporting the military, dating as far back as 1919, when Henry Ford began to hire disabled veterans returning from World War I. During WWII, we repurposed facilities to make much-needed military equipment and today, we actively recruit veterans for career opportunities. Our Veteran Network Group offers a supportive community.

Military moments

Rosie the Riveter

Rosie the Riveter, the muscle-flexing woman exclaiming “We Can Do It” in the famous World War II poster, was inspired by a Ford employee at Ford’s Willow Run bomber plant named Rose Will Monroe. She has become an icon not only for women who kept the U.S. factories rolling during wartime, but for all women of strength and determination.

Veterans build long-term careers across Ford—entering at different stages and growing in different directions. Some join directly from military service. Others bring years of experience from the civilian workforce. What they share is the ability to lead, adapt, and deliver in complex environments. Your military experience translates into meaningful careers across manufacturing, engineering, technology, operations, and leadership.

Financial Analyst

“A pleasant surprise for me was the concern for the customer relationship. At Ford Credit, the amount of fees we would waive even if we incurred costs, the ability to defer loan payments, the disaster relief programs, etc. really showed me that the company puts people first. I was nervous to work for a corporation as I was not going to sell my soul to make widgets, but Ford has never made me feel embarrassed of my job or company.”

Harold, U.S. Marine

GDIA Command Center Operations Supervisor

“Learning to remain calm and focused on the task at hand no matter what is going on around me or who is involved has been a skill that has served me well in the workplace. This especially helps in a crisis when critical programs or systems are down, and you need a cool head to resolve the issue quickly.”

Brent, U.S. Navy

Plant Vehicle Team Resident Engineer and Supervisor, Flat Rock Assembly Plant

“Your skills are valuable. The steep learning curve repeatedly demonstrated in military technical and mechanical fields leads to rapid uptake on Ford processes and technologies.”
