The Electric Vehicle Energy Management team develops critical technologies that enable next-generation electric vehicles. Our work spans power conversion, energy distribution, charging systems, and battery management solutions, including:
- On-Board Chargers (OBC)
- Charge Controllers
- Smart Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)
- AC-DC and DC-DC Power Converters
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Motor Controllers
Working alongside world-class hardware, software, validation, and manufacturing teams, you will contribute to innovative technologies deployed across Ford's global vehicle portfolio.
- Develop electrical requirements and define interfaces in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams and product owners.
- Design high-voltage, high-power electronic circuits using industry-standard schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
- Perform worst-case circuit analysis, component derating analysis, thermal analysis, and end-of-life tolerance assessments.
- Evaluate and qualify alternate components while maintaining product performance, reliability, and cost targets.
- Execute board bring-up, functional validation, and performance testing activities.
- Support design verification, durability, and life-cycle testing on laboratory benches and production vehicles.
- Collaborate closely with software, systems, validation, and vehicle engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Identify and resolve hardware design, EMC, EMI, and system integration issues.
- Develop and maintain functional safety work products, including:
- DFMEA
- FMEDA
- WCCA
- Safety analyses supporting ISO 26262 compliance
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience designing power electronics systems such as:
- Inverters
- Power converters
- Onboard chargers
- Motor drive systems
- Strong understanding of:
- Power semiconductor devices (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC)
- Gate driver circuits
- Magnetics
- Thermal management
- EMI/EMC design principles
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment including:
- Oscilloscopes
- Power analyzers
- Programmable power supplies
- Electronic loads
- Environmental and thermal chambers
- Understanding of embedded systems and firmware interactions.
- Experience with automotive communication protocols:
- CAN
- LIN
- Automotive Ethernet
- Familiarity with automotive EMC and electrical validation standards.
- Experience with requirements management and traceability tools (Jama preferred).
- Strong hardware debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience developing EV charging products or charging infrastructure solutions.
- Experience with ISO 26262 functional safety processes.
- Prior experience launching production-scale electric vehicle products.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
