In this position...
The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations & Investigations, working without any appreciable supervision, is responsible for the resolution of employee relations issues, such as conflicts, disputes, and disciplinary matters, with fairness and consistency in a timely manner. This role designs standard operating protocols and benchmarks to be implemented for investigations, cases, and mediations, to improve employee motivation. Additionally, the role is a subject matter expert on matters pertaining to employee relations. The role advises leaders and consults with teams on performance management, feedback mechanisms, and delivery, goal setting, workplace conduct, employee retrenchment, etc. to ensure a positive work environment across the organization.
This role is 5 days onsite at the Chicago Assembly Plant.
What you'll do...
- Investigate workplace issues/concerns raised through internal company channels and some externally filed complaints, including complaints of harassment, retaliation, and other violations of company policy.
- Exhibit sound judgment in recommending outcomes for investigations.
- Partner with Human Resources and/or the Labor Relations team to ensure proper handling and disposition of cases involving salaried employees and union-represented employees.
- Prepare, track, and maintain appropriate investigation documentation.
- Develop and implement investigation plans.
- Drive timely closure of open cases/concerns.
- Manage employee data and statements in a highly confidential manner.
- Draft concise and clear investigation reports.
- Partner cross functionally on investigations, performance management, and other aspects of employee relations.
- Analyze case activity to determine trends/recommendations for proactive actions.
- Serve as a strategic partner, promoting ethical and compliant behavior that is aligned with company policy and government regulations, with fair and equal treatment for the workforce.
- Demonstrate knowledge of industry best practices in employee relations subjects such as conflict resolution, dispute management, case management, complaints, along with a strong understanding and application of related concepts and principles.
- Support Salaried Personnel activities as required, including coach, counsel, and educate Salaried employees on HR policies, performance management, processes and programs.
- Foster an effective, inclusive work environment/culture and relationships, balancing employee advocacy with stewardship of company goals and values.
- Conduct other duties as necessary to align with EEO regulations, and other internal and external policies and directives.
- Support all Health and Safety activities as required.
- Must have a flexible schedule to allow investigations on any of the shifts.
You'll have...
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience of conducting investigations, including interviewing and dispositioning, and overall case management.
- Minimum 2 years of Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may vary week to week, including nights and some weekends.

- Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience.
- 2 or more years of human resources generalist experience
- 2 or more years of working in a manufacturing environment
- 2 years or more of experience working with the UAW or other labor union
- Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP)
- Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP)
Work Requirements:
Involves occasional (defined as one-third or less of the time) lifting of no more than 10 pounds at a time. Work is performed primarily in a seated position and entails no significant stooping, standing, climbing, walking, etc. Many sedentary jobs require good use of the hands and fingers for repetitive hand-finger actions. Working conditions occur within low to moderate noise levels related to the use of standard office or classroom equipment.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720-162,120.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
