- Job Type: Full time
- Work Type: Hybrid
We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
In this position...
At Ford, we are driving the future of automotive innovation. Our Low Voltage Power Supply Architecture team is at the forefront of this transformation, ensuring that the complex electrical "nervous system" of our vehicles is indestructible. We are seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented FMA (Failure Mode Analysis) Engineer to join our dynamic team in Dearborn.
The Opportunity: In this mission-critical role, you will be part of a cutting-edge team revolutionizing Power Supply Architectures for our next-generation vehicles across global platforms. As the "reliability architect," you will ensure the robustness of the foundational electrical systems that power everything from advanced infotainment to safety-critical autonomous driving capabilities. This position demands a proactive systems-thinking approach, integrating expertise from electrical design, failure physics, and functional safety to deliver indestructible solutions. You won't just analyze systems; you will influence the very DNA of Ford’s future vehicle platforms.
What you'll do...
Lead Robustness Analysis: Spearhead the FMA (Failure Mode Analysis) process for 12V and 48V Power Supply Architectures, identifying potential failure modes early in the design cycle to influence architectural decisions.
Architect Failure Models: Develop and maintain comprehensive Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, and Interface Matrices to visualize and document system interactions and potential error states within the Power Supply Architecture.
Drive DFMEA Excellence: Facilitate and lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) sessions with cross-functional teams, ensuring that every potential risk in the power distribution and management system is mitigated.
Collaborate on Design Integration: Act as a key interface with component engineers and system architects to ensure the hardware Power Supply Architecture is optimized for maximum uptime, fault tolerance, and seamless vehicle integration.
Innovate with AI: Leverage AI-driven tools and modern data methods to automate failure mode detection and optimize the efficiency of the FMA process.
You'll have...
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, sizing, or verification of automotive electrical systems, specifically with low voltage Power Supply Architectures (12V and/or 48V).
3+ years of demonstrated experience and strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and FMA/FMEA methodologies (e.g., DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams).
Experience in applying ISO 26262 functional safety standards (or equivalent safety-critical industry standards) in a hardware or systems domain.
Capability to effectively utilize AI tools and methods for analysis, optimization, or engineering problem-solving.
Even better, you may have...
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in one of the aforementioned engineering fields, or a specialized focus in Power Electronics or Control Systems.
3+ years of experience with complex vehicle electrical architectures and automotive power distribution systems on 12V and 48V.
5+ years of demonstrated experience and strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and FMA/FMEA methodologies (e.g., DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams).
Familiarity with Ford engineering processes and tools, such as Ford Engineering Design Environment (FEDE), Jama, Global Product Development System (GPDS), and Jira.
Professional certification in Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or Reliability Engineering (CRE).
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a "challenger" mindset—the ability to proactively identify and resolve complex technical challenges by collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
