Ford is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help develop, enhance, and expand our observability and chaos engineering platform capabilities. This role combines software engineering and site reliability engineering practices to improve the availability, scalability, performance, and resilience of mission-critical cloud services.
You will work at the intersection of software development, platform engineering, and reliability engineering, building solutions that enable teams across the organization to monitor, test, and improve system reliability at scale.

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions using Golang, JavaScript, and Python.
  • Build and maintain REST and gRPC APIs, integrations, and high-performance backend services.
  • Champion engineering excellence through test-driven development, code reviews, and automation.
  • Design and support distributed cloud-native systems, preferably on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes.
  • Develop and maintain chaos engineering platforms and reliability-focused tooling.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system reliability, observability, scalability, and performance.
  • Lead troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex production issues.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and incident response activities.
  • Conduct post-incident reviews and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring issues.
  • Define and implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions using industry-standard tools.
  • Implement security best practices and support security audits and vulnerability remediation efforts.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and infrastructure optimization.
  • Develop, maintain, and validate disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture decisions, runbooks, playbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor team members and provide technical leadership through design reviews and engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering, site reliability engineering, or platform engineering experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Golang and experience with one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems in cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems and system internals.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring solutions, including OpenTelemetry or similar technologies.
  • Experience developing APIs and backend services.
  • Familiarity with relational and/or document databases.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with chaos engineering concepts and tooling.
  • Experience with Dynatrace or similar observability platforms.
  • Knowledge of C++, Rust, or other systems programming languages.
  • Experience with platform engineering practices and infrastructure automation.
