QA Automation Engineer (Mobile)

This is a hybrid technical/leadership role: you will remain hands-on with automation frameworks and test design while also mentoring engineers, shaping hiring decisions, and planning team delivery against program milestones.

• Define and lead the end-to-end validation & verification strategy for assigned Ford App features, starting with native commerce (in-app accessories storefront and in-app subscriptions), and expanding over time to features such as mobile-to-vehicle projection and service scheduling.
• Design and execute test coverage for in-app purchase and subscription flows, including checkout, payment processing (Stripe, using test card scenarios), order/transaction state validation, and subscription lifecycle events (trials, renewals, upgrades/downgrades, cancellations).
• Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Software QA Engineers (currently 2-3, with growth planned), providing technical guidance, code/test design reviews, and day-to-day direction on test execution.
• Actively participate in hiring and building out the QA team, including sourcing, interviewing, and providing hiring recommendations, and contribute input into team members' performance reviews.
• Own and evolve the mobile automation framework strategy, using XCTest/XCUIAutomation for iOS and Jetpack Compose Test API + Espresso for Android.
• Design comprehensive test cases covering functional, integration, and edge-case scenarios for mobile app features, including commerce flows and, as scope expands, device-to-vehicle projection scenarios.
• Plan and coordinate test execution and delivery schedules across releases, balancing team capacity, program priorities, and quality commitments.
• Execute and oversee automated and manual tests across development, staging, and production-like commerce environments.
• Analyze test results, debug automation failures, and perform root cause analysis to determine whether defects originate in application code, payment/subscription integration, or test environment/automation.
• Manage defect lifecycle using JIRA, ensuring clear documentation, triage, prioritization, and resolution tracking.
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and collaborate with development teams to maintain fast, reliable feedback loops.
• Maintain and evolve test assets (test plans, test cases, automated scripts) using Git-based version control, including branching and merging strategies for shared automation codebases.
• Champion test process improvements and drive adoption of industry-aligned QA practices (e.g., ISTQB testing principles, ASPICE-aligned process discipline for vehicle-integrated features).
• Report on test status, coverage, and quality metrics to engineering leadership, providing visibility into risks and mitigation plans.
• Explore and pilot automation approaches beyond native mobile (e.g., web testing) to support long-term team scaling as scope expands. 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance/validation, with a strong focus on mobile application testing (Android and/or iOS).
• Demonstrable hands-on experience building test automation for native mobile platforms using XCTest/XCUIAutomation (iOS) and/or Jetpack Compose Test API and Espresso (Android).
• Experience testing e-commerce, in-app purchase, or subscription-based features, including payment processing flows (e.g., Stripe or similar payment gateways).
• Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to other QA engineers.
• Experience planning and coordinating test delivery/execution for a team against release milestones.
• Strong experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), including branching and merging strategies.
• Experience with defect/test management tools such as JIRA.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis across app, integration, and environment layers.
• Advanced English skills. 

Extra:

• Experience testing features that involve mobile-to-vehicle connectivity or projection (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, remote vehicle command/control features).
• Experience with web test automation frameworks, particularly Playwright.
• Familiarity with ISTQB testing principles and/or ASPICE-aligned software validation processes.
• Prior experience participating in hiring processes (interviewing, technical assessment design).
• Experience scaling a QA automation framework across multiple platforms or teams.
