Tires, Jacks, and Wheel Ornaments D&R Engineer

Ford is looking for a Design & Release (D&R) Engineer for Wheels, Tires, Jacks, and Wheel Ornaments (WTJO) in Mexico. In this role, you will lead the design, development, validation, and release of WTJO components for assigned vehicle programs. You will ensure compliance with quality, cost, weight, and timing targets while adhering to Ford's engineering specifications (ES/FEDE) and manufacturing requirements. Collaborating with suppliers, design studio, vehicle dynamics, and program teams, you will drive product robustness, support assembly plant launches, and manage parts release through GPDS and WERS. • Product Development & Release: Lead the D&R process for WTJO components across assigned vehicle programs. Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) and release parts using Ford systems (FEDEBOM and WERS) from prototype stages through post-Job 1.

• Quality & Validation: Ensure all components comply with Engineering Specifications (ES), System Design Specifications (SDS), and Worldwide Customer Requirements (WCR). Develop Design Verification Plans (DVP) and identify functional, validation, and durability tests.

• Program & Cost Management: Meet program targets for cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing. Apply GPDS, Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) disciplines, and Six Sigma/8D methodologies to drive engineering robustness.

• Sourcing & Supplier Collaboration: Draft Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW), support the sourcing process (tooling, piece cost, CPA), and provide technical assistance to suppliers through the Supplier Engagement Process in partnership with STA and Purchasing.

• Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate closely with Design Studio, Vehicle Dynamics, Program Teams, CAD, Suppliers, and Vehicle Engineering. Support assembly plant vehicle launches, resolve prototype/production issues (AIMS), and assist with plant quality concerns.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, or a related Engineering discipline. Master's degree preferred.
• Strong understanding of automotive product development systems (GPDS) and change control processes.
• Experience with CAD, BOM management tools (FEDEBOM, WERS), and sourcing documentation (ESOW).
• Familiarity with Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA), Six Sigma, 8D problem-solving, and DVP&R.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers.
