In this role, the attorney will advise clients on compliance with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and identifying potential issues that require a safety recall. The attorney will play a critical part in communicating directly with business clients, participating in weekly meetings with the Automotive Safety Office and Product Development, and working on Ford’s compliance with NHTSA’s Consent Order. If you possess outstanding regulatory skills, thrive in a dynamic corporate environment, and are passionate about producing high-quality legal content, we encourage you to apply.
• Participate in weekly meetings to review technical product issues to determine if a safety recall under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act is warranted.
• Collaborate with the Automotive Safety Office to review items for FMVSS compliance.
• Ensure all drafted documents provided to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration are accurate, clear, legally sound, and enforceable, aligning with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
• Conduct targeted legal research as necessary to support the drafting of regulatory documents.
Required
• Background working on regulatory issues with an emphasis on the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
• Strong understanding of potential legal issues related to FMVSS compliance.
• 8+ years of dedicated experience as a lawyer, with a preference for matters involving the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration or automotive experience.
• A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is required.
• Must be a licensed attorney in a U.S. state.
Preferred

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex business issues and translate them into legal language.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with attorneys and internal business partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, for advanced document creation and editing.
