1. **Certification & Regulatory Compliance**
1. **NRTL Testing**: Lead regulatory certification testing for Bidirectional EVSE with NRTL, interfacing with development teams in Long Beach and India.
2. **Compliance Monitoring**: Relay information on any SW and HW non-compliances that may come out of testing and drive compliance forward within launch timelines.
3. **Standards Consultation**: Consult on requirements for onboard and offboard commodities related to bidirectional V2G and V2H [UL9741, UL1741, UL1741SC, UL1741SB, SAE J3072, UL 3141, IEEE 1547, ANSI C84.1 and Power quality standards].
4. **Automation Tools**: Consult on test tool vendor vetting for UL1741SC and J3072 [IEEE 1547] test automation.
5. **Documentation**: Consult and develop documentation for V2G and HEMS system installation and operation manuals, collaborating with relevant teams within Ford.
2. **Product Strategy & Hardware Roadmap**
1. **Pro EVSE Certification**: Support Pro EVSE certification for public V2G using both LIN-CP (system type D) and 15118 (system type E).
2. **Commercial Pilots**: Apply for interconnection for commercial V2G pilots in Long Beach, Palo Alto, and Allen Park Test Labs, working with regional utility partners.
3. **Hardware Revisions**: Define requirements for hardware revision(s) to allow for:
1. Revenue-grade billing with higher accuracy-class CT — undergo [California CTEP evaluation](https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/dms/programs/ctep/ctep.html)
2. Integration of NFC reader for seamless tap-to-pay in public / integration of Plug and Charge with ISO 15118 contract certificate exchange
3. Retail unit — V2H dark-start battery-less solution using pilot-based power from the EV for infinite black-start capability, or completely off-grid V2H.
4. **EMEA Market Expansion**: Once aligned in cycle plan, begin defining requirements for Type 2 Bidirectional EVSE for the EMEA market — ISO 15118, VDE anti-islanding protection requirements, Eichrecht metering, etc.
3. **External Representation & Utility Partnerships**
1. **Utility Interface**: Interface with Policy, Grid, and Energy Services team; serve as Ford's technical representative with utilities to establish adoption of bidirectional charging interconnection.
2. **Policy & Forums**: Consult on relevant policy proceedings and represent Ford in industry forums and conferences related to V2G and Home Energy Management Systems (including technical working groups, industry forums, Distributech, CES, and others) to further establish Ford as a thought leader in this space.
3. **ChargeScape & Business Models**: Consult on integration strategy with ChargeScape. Support in establishing clearly defined business models with recurring revenue. Drive strategy for a vendor-agnostic API (not limited to OVGIP/ChargeScape).
4. **Industry Working Groups & Standardization**
1. **Active Participation**: Participate in industry working groups such as:
1. CA Rule 21 V2G AC proceedings
2. J3072/x cooperative research projects with national labs
3. Future revisions of UL1741SC, J3072, and IEEE 1547-2018
4. Forums on grid inverter integration to ensure UL1741SC is adopted with utilities
2. **Technical Comments**: Provide comments on relevant UL1741 (bidirectional EV) and UL9741 CRD proposals.
3. **Grid Integration Flow**: Integrate the EPRI Common File Format to streamline grid code installer setup flow.
4. **Research & Advocacy**: Influence utility interconnection procedures to integrate V2G. Potentially work with research industry partners (e.g., EPRI) to write a whitepaper.
5. **Knowledge Transfer**: Cascade emergent requirements from the above to development teams to proactively get ahead of incoming standards and regulations related to V2X.
5. **Internal Collaboration & Validation**
1. **End-to-End Validation**: Collaborate with the Features team to ensure end-to-end validation and test cases are captured for both V2H and V2G for a successful UEV launch.
2. **Platform Alignment**: Align requirements with current and future vehicle platforms for overall V2X company success.
You'll have...
- - B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- - 5+ years in regulatory certification, standards compliance, or product compliance engineering for electrical/electromechanical products — automotive, grid-connected power electronics, or energy systems preferred.
- - Direct experience leading or supporting NRTL certification testing (e.g., UL) and managing corrective action / non-compliance findings against a launch timeline.
- - Working knowledge of bidirectional charging / V2G-V2H standards (UL1741 family, SAE J3072, IEEE 1547, ISO 15118) and the ability to translate them into product requirements.
- - Experience engaging directly with utilities, regulators, or standards bodies on interconnection, certification, or grid-code requirements.
- - Experience participating in or contributing to industry standards development — technical committee participation, comment/response submissions, or working group representation.
- - Ability to author or review compliance-facing technical documentation (installation/operation manuals, certification submissions, standards comments).
- - Strong systems engineering fundamentals — requirements decomposition and traceability — applied to a compliance and certification context rather than pure hardware/software design.
- - Ability to represent Ford's technical and policy position to external stakeholders (utilities, standards bodies, suppliers, regulators) and to influence internal engineering teams to meet emerging regulatory requirements.
- - Comfort operating in ambiguity across policy, regulatory, and engineering domains, tracking multiple concurrent certification and standards efforts.
