Manufacturing / Industrial Engineer – Powertrain

The role will support powertrain manufacturing programs by developing and implementing industrial engineering strategies related to labour planning, line balancing, ergonomics, capacity analysis, and continuous improvement. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, program management, and global IE teams to meet program cost, quality, and delivery targets.

Strong exposure to engine machining and assembly processes, industrial engineering tools, and lean manufacturing practices is essential.

Responsibilities

Industrial Engineering & Capacity Planning

  • Develop new program capacity strategies, including operating patterns, cycle time targets, and line balancing.
  • Define launch curves to support program milestones, build‑ahead plans, and launch cost estimation.
  • Develop and maintain direct, indirect, and salaried labour staffing plans to meet programme labour targets.
  • Create and maintain labour glide paths aligned with programme and business requirements.
  • Support engineered Jobs Per Hour (JPH) re‑rates and post‑launch changes.

Manufacturing & Program Support

  • Provide industrial engineering support for new powertrain programs (engine and transmission).
  • Support manufacturing launch activities, program reviews, dashboards, and key metrics.
  • Lead line labour planning for machining and assembly operations.
  • Track labour performance, off‑standard labour, and improvement actions.

Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing

  • Conduct time studies, MODAPTS analysis, workstation assessments, and ergonomic studies.
  • Perform VA / NVA analysis, waste identification, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support Kaizen activities and plant improvement initiatives.
  • Lead benchmarking studies to improve labour efficiency and capacity utilisation.

Digital Tools & Standards

  • Use Global Study Process Allocation System (GSPAS) or equivalent tools for time studies and allocations.
  • Support development and maintenance of industrial engineering standards, documentation, and training materials.
  • Apply digital tools, simulation techniques, and data analysis to optimise manufacturing performance.
  • Explore AI / ML‑based approaches where applicable to improve planning, productivity, and decision‑making.

Collaboration & Governance

  • Interface with global capacity planning and industrial engineering teams.
  • Support documentation, audit, and governance of engineered labour metrics across programs.
  • Work in a team‑based, cross‑functional environment with manufacturing, quality, and programme teams.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering:
    • Mechanical
    • Manufacturing
    • Industrial
    • Production
    • Automotive

Experience & Skills

  • 4–6 years of experience in automotive manufacturing, preferably OEMs.
  • Strong knowledge of engine machining and assembly processes.
  • Hands‑on experience in:
    • Industrial engineering
    • Time studies / MODAPTS
    • Line balancing and cycle time optimisation
    • Ergonomics and workstation assessments
    • Lean manufacturing principles
  • Proficiency in manufacturing digital tools and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and computer skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional team environment.
