In this position...

The Manager, Battery Pack Assembly Manufacturing Engineering provides strategic, technical, and organizational leadership for the end‑to‑end development, launch, and sustainment of battery pack assembly manufacturing systems. This role is accountable for the entire manufacturing value stream, spanning product concept through launch and rate of climb, while building and leading a skills‑based manufacturing engineering organization.

The manager integrates manufacturing requirements early into product development, champions Ford manufacturing standards, drives digital and advanced manufacturing technologies, and develops engineers into technical, leadership, and supplier‑facing professionals capable of delivering safe, scalable, and cost‑competitive battery manufacturing solutions.

What you'll do...

End‑to‑End Manufacturing Value Stream Ownership

The manager is accountable for manufacturing engineering execution across all program phases:

  • Product Concept & Early Feasibility
    • Provide early manufacturing input during product concept development to influence architecture, assembly feasibility, cost, and scalability.
    • Lead manufacturing responses to feasibility studies, identifying risks, assumptions, and investment implications.
  • Study Responses & Enquiry Specification Development
    • Develop manufacturing study responses supporting program decision making.
    • Lead creation and approval of Enquiry Specifications, ensuring alignment to BME standards, DPA5 workflows, MDS/MPS, and Bill of Process (BoP).
  • Supplier Quoting, Recap & Sourcing Support
    • Provide technical leadership during supplier quoting and recap reviews.
    • Support Purchasing with supplier capability assessments, cost evaluation, and risk identification.
    • Ensure quality, safety, digital, and joining technology requirements are fully embedded in supplier scope.
  • PO Placement & Simultaneous Engineering
    • Support PO readiness through scope alignment and risk mitigation planning.
    • Direct Simultaneous Engineering between Product Engineering, Suppliers, and Manufacturing Engineering to optimize cost, investment efficiency, and timing.
  • Equipment Build, Run‑Off & Validation
    • Provide technical oversight of supplier equipment builds and run‑off events.
    • Ensure compliance to specifications, standards, and deviation governance.
  • Plant Installation, Commissioning & Capability
    • Lead manufacturing engineering support through installation, integration, and commissioning.
    • Ensure systems meet safety, quality, ergonomics, throughput, and traceability targets.
  • Launch & Rate of Climb
    • Lead manufacturing engineering execution through SOP, launch, and rate of climb.
    • Drive issue resolution, stabilization, and continuous improvement in early production.

Strategic Leadership & Process Management

  • Champion Manufacturing Standards
    • Lead implementation of manufacturing technology strategies, procedures, guidelines, BoP, and MDS/MPS across all battery programs.
  • Deviation Authority
    • Review and approve technical deviations to protect program integrity, quality, and long‑term manufacturability.
  • Simultaneous Engineering & Cost Optimization
    • Direct simultaneous engineering activities and cost studies to optimize capital investment and achieve program targets.
  • Standardization & Knowledge Management
    • Institutionalize departmental knowledge, best practices, and standard work to enable reuse and scalability.
  • Digital Integration
    • Champion digital tools and DPA5 Engineering workflows, including simulation, virtual commissioning, and AI‑enabled productivity tools.

Technical Oversight & Launch Excellence

  • Provide senior‑level technical guidance through engineering, run‑off, installation, commissioning, and launch.
  • Manage resources to ensure end‑to‑end delivery of manufacturing systems.
  • Lead and coach three LL6 Supervisors across the following pillars:

1. Quality & Safety Engineering

  • GD&T stack‑ups and dimensional robustness
  • PFMEA / DFMEA / DCP development
  • Vision systems, error proofing, and traceability
  • E2KS compliance, MDS/MPS governance, BoP development

2. Advanced Manufacturing Technologies & Digital Services

  • New technology development and manufacturing feasibility
  • Automation, robotics, and controls integration
  • Simulation, virtual commissioning, and digital validation
  • Industrial Engineering: line balancing, capacity, labor, and throughput modeling

3. Joining Technologies

  • Fastening systems, adhesives/sealants, riveting, and specialty joining
  • Joining process development, validation, and equipment specification
  • Bolt feeders, dispense systems, and joining controls

Coaching, Mentoring & Capability Development

  • Engineer Development
    • Coach engineers to build technical depth, systems thinking, and full value‑stream ownership.
    • Develop strong engineering judgment and disciplined decision‑making.
  • Leadership Development
    • Build leadership capability in communication, influence, accountability, and problem solving.
    • Prepare engineers for future technical lead, supervisory, and managerial roles.
  • Supplier Relationship Management
    • Coach engineers on effective supplier engagement, including: 
      • Technical scope definition and requirement clarity
      • Professional interaction during quoting, recaps, and negotiations
      • Managing supplier performance, escalation, and corrective actions
      • Balancing collaboration with Ford standards and accountability
  • Business & Commercial Acumen
    • Develop understanding of capital investment trade‑offs, cost drivers, and sourcing decisions.
    • Enable engineers to translate technical choices into business impact.

People & Resource Development

  • Develop resource plans supporting M1–M6 programs and BME objectives.
  • Hire, assign, and manage personnel across technical disciplines.
  • Assess competencies across technical, leadership, and supplier‑management dimensions.
  • Lead Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and succession planning.
  • Conduct and oversee technical and professional training as required.

You'll have:

  • BSc, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial preferred).
  • 10+ years' experience in the automotive manufacturing space, preferably within Battery Manufacturing.

Even better, you'll may have...

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business (MBA).
  • Battery module or battery pack assembly manufacturing experience.
  • Background in digital manufacturing, simulation, or virtual commissioning.
  • Deep experience with joining technologies.
  • Familiarity with Ford BME governance, DPA5, and MDS/MPS.
  • Experience launching new or greenfield manufacturing facilities.

This position is leadership level 5 and ranges from $141,700-$268,300.


Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
