Network Engineer (Data Center LAN Planner)

A Data Center LAN Planner has responsibility to gather network connectivity requirements from internal Hosting/Storage customers so they can perform detailed planning and coordination of supporting network changes in the Enterprise Data Center LAN network environment.
Responsibilities:
- Although classified as “Fully Remote” to enable work from home, this position requires the ability to work onsite as needed at the Enterprise Data Centers or in a Network Lab environment in Dearborn, Michigan area.
- Lead design and implementation planning for Data Center LAN projects:
- Communicate with various Server Hosting, Mainframe and Storage teams to understand network connectivity requirements; encourage compliance with Data Center standards
- Design network (logical, physical) according to approved standards; consult with Network Engineering team as appropriate if customer requirements don’t align with current standards
- Arrange space and power with Data Center Facilities team
- Perform site surveys and audits for Data Center Network
- Prepare and maintain bill-of-materials; order network hardware and cabling following purchasing process/policies; approve payment of invoices
- Plan changes to network configurations in accordance with standards and following change control process/policy; plan associated DNS configuration changes
- Coordinate hardware, cabling and configuration tasks with Network Operations
- Create logical network drawings and change control documents
- Coordinate and schedule change windows
- Attend change control meetings to present project information and resolve implementation issues
- Manage project resources/timing and communicate plans to stakeholders
- Create network design and process documentation in various formats (drawings, spreadsheets)
- Coordinate Network Refresh projects (Cisco L2/L3, ACI switches, NCS DWDM)
- Plan implementation of approved code updates (ACI, NXOS, NCS)
- Coordinate with Network Engineering to test new network designs, hardware, code updates, etc.
- Document projects and ongoing work activities following AGILE process requirements
Required Skills:
- In depth knowledge of Cisco ACI, NXOS
- In depth knowledge of Cisco L2/L3 switch technologies
- In depth knowledge of Ethernet switching (1G, 10G, 40G, 100G)
- Knowledge of basic networking and IP protocols
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Visio, Excel and Sharepoint applications
- Strong project management skills, organization skills, personal discipline, interpersonal relationship skills and communication skills (written and oral)
Preferred Skills:
- Strong process mindset – ability to follow, create and document effective and sustainable processes
- High standards for quality; attention to detail
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage several projects at the same time
- Coordinate network upgrades, expansions, and hardware refresh
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network switching/routing and optical issues
- Collaborate with suppliers for hardware/software upgrades and issue resolution
- Ensure compliance with operational standards and security policies
- Design, configure, and maintain Cisco NCS DWDM optical transport systems (e.g., NCS 2000/4000 series)
- Perform testing and validation of Cisco NCS DWDM optical technologies in a dedicated lab environment
- Knowledge of DNS and load-balancing technologies
- Knowledge of Virtual Hosting (ex: VMWare, OpenShift Virtualization)
- Knowledge of server, storage and mainframe technologies
- Knowledge of structured cabling best practices
- Knowledge of Jira (AGILE software)
Education Required:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or related technical field or equivalent working experience relevant to this position
Additional Education Preferred:
- Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCNP)
- Other technical or project management certifications (e.g. RCDD, PMI)

This position is a salary grade 6-7 and ranges from $74,300-$144,900.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
