In this position...
As a Software Product Engineer for Android Auto Projection, you will be responsible for understanding, evaluating, and spearheading the integration of Google’s projection technologies into Ford vehicles. This includes managing the technical relationship with Google, optimizing wireless and wired connectivity protocols, and ensuring that Android Auto features—such as navigation, media, and voice assistants—are deeply and reliably integrated with Ford’s hardware, HMI, and vehicle signals.
What you'll do...
- Analysis: Thoroughly analyze and comprehend the capabilities, certification requirements, and integration protocols of Android Auto Projection (Wireless and Wired).
- Collaboration: Partner with Google, Ford UX, and infotainment development teams to architect and implement seamless, high-performance projection experiences.
- Innovation: Identify opportunities to leverage Android Auto’s "Car App Library" and Google’s latest projection updates to enhance Ford-specific features and services.
- System Integration: Ensure reliable and efficient integration of video streaming, audio focus management, and touch-screen latency across Ford’s SYNC and next-gen infotainment platforms.
- Technical Research: Proactively explore emerging trends in the mobile-to-vehicle ecosystem (e.g., Ultra-Wideband connectivity, multi-display projection) to identify potential future integrations.
- Technical Guidance: Provide expert guidance on Android Auto certification processes (Google AAP certification) and support the maintenance of projection-powered features.
- Connectivity & Streaming: Experience working with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth stacks and real-time video/audio streaming protocols to ensure a stable wireless projection environment.
- Vehicle Data Integration: Design and implement features that allow Android Auto to accurately leverage vehicle-side data (GPS, wheel speed, fuel/EV status) to provide a more precise and integrated user experience.
You'll have...
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Proven experience as a Software Product Engineer, with a strong background in integrating mobile projection technologies (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay) or third-party mobile APIs.
- Industry Knowledge: Excellent understanding of the automotive industry, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, and the Android ecosystem.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in software development, with experience in languages and frameworks used in Android and automotive environments (e.g., Java, Kotlin, C++, Android SDK).
- Domain Expertise: Familiarity with Android OS internals, Projection protocols (VHAL, video/audio pipelines), and wireless connectivity standards (802.11ac/ax, Bluetooth).
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage technical relationships with external partners (Google), and a collaborative mindset.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional global teams.
- Drive: A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in mobile technology and its intersection with the automotive sector.
