At Ford, you’ll work on ideas that matter, alongside passionate people who want to make a global impact. Together, we’re shaping the next era of transportation—grounded in purpose, driven by progress. Make your move.

  • Job Type: Full time
  • Work Type: Hybrid

We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Enterprise Technology is redefining the transportation landscape and improving people's lives through advanced technology — and this role puts you at the center of that work.

We are seeking an experienced Technology Service Management Specialist to provide technical leadership, operational support, and modernization expertise for a complex test-lab environment. In this role, you will support the day-to-day operation of systems used across Ford’s Dynamometer Lab while helping evolve the technology foundation that keeps the lab running. You will troubleshoot test-bed hardware and software, partner with test engineers and vendors, and drive improvements ranging from incremental operational enhancements to full application and platform modernization.

This role combines technology service management, software engineering, cloud modernization, DevOps, and customer support. You will work with legacy Microsoft-based utilities, Java-based modernization solutions, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, and CI/CD tools to improve service reliability, supportability, and delivery velocity. Your work will directly contribute to the lab’s 99%+ uptime objective and enable uninterrupted vehicle and component testing operations.

Operational and Lab Support:

  • Deliver proactive day-to-day technical support for test-bed hardware, software, applications, and production environments within the Dynamometer Lab.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents affecting test-cell systems, test-bed PCs, data acquisition platforms, automation solutions, and related operational technologies.
  • Plan and perform readiness checks, implementation support, and troubleshooting for system upgrades and other initiatives affecting test-cell PCs and lab environments.
  • Drive rapid incident resolution, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventative improvements to protect the lab’s 99%+ uptime objective.
  • Partner with customers, vendor solution providers, and Test Engineers to support, maintain, and troubleshoot real-time data-acquisition and test-automation systems.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between lab operations, engineering teams, vendors, and technology teams, translating operational issues into practical engineering solutions.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, support procedures, system inventories, operational runbooks, and knowledge-base materials.
  • Support change-management, release-management, and operational-readiness activities for systems deployed in the lab environment.

Software Engineering and Modernization:

  • Own, maintain, and evaluate core software utilities used to manage test-bed PCs and process test-data file uploads.
  • Support existing applications built using .NET Framework, VBScript, and comparable legacy Microsoft-stack technologies.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to modernize legacy codebases, software architectures, integration patterns, and data layers.
  • Develop and enhance Java-based solutions as part of the modernization of legacy .NET applications and supporting services.
  • Integrate internal applications with third-party and vendor APIs, SDKs, data-acquisition platforms, and test-automation systems.
  • Evaluate and apply PostgreSQL-based data-management solutions to improve data reliability, performance, reporting, and operational support.
  • Use Google Cloud Platform capabilities to support infrastructure modernization, hosting, scalability, and long-term platform evolution.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, peer reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Apply software-engineering best practices, including maintainable code, testing, documentation, source control, and secure development practices.

DevOps, Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated build, deployment, rollback, and release-management processes.
  • Improve release reliability, change visibility, and recovery readiness through automation and standardized engineering practices.
  • Monitor system health, investigate recurring issues, and use operational data to identify opportunities for reliability and performance improvements.
  • Apply networking and information-security fundamentals to support segmented and private test-bed networks and secure lab-system configurations.
  • Ensure lab systems and supporting applications follow appropriate security, access-control, configuration-management, and data-protection practices.
  • Partner with infrastructure, cybersecurity, network, vendor, and engineering teams to resolve complex issues and improve the lab technology environment.
  • Explore opportunities to apply automation and AI-enabled tools to modernization activities, code migration, test-data analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive operational insights.
  • Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture through continuous learning, technical documentation, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

We recognize that no one person will embody every single quality or skill listed below. If you are passionate about technical service management, software modernization, lab operations, and building reliable systems that support vehicle development, we encourage you to apply.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor of Technology preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of professional software-development, technical-support, technology-service-management, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • Experience supporting production systems, operational technology, lab environments, test systems, or other business-critical technology platforms.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex hardware, software, networking, integration, data, and operational issues.
  • Experience collaborating with customers, engineering teams, vendors, infrastructure teams, and cross-functional technology stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Strong communication, customer-service, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Required Technical Experience:

  • Experience with .NET Framework, VBScript, or comparable legacy Microsoft-stack technologies.
  • Proficiency in Java, including experience developing or modernizing applications and integrating with third-party or vendor APIs and SDKs.
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL for data management, troubleshooting, reporting, and application support.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and cloud-hosting or modernization concepts.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated build, deployment, rollback, and release processes.
  • Understanding of software-development practices, including source control, automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and secure coding.
  • Experience supporting systems in a high-availability operational environment where reliability and timely incident response are critical.
  • General familiarity with networking and information-security fundamentals, including network segmentation, private or isolated network architectures, secure configuration practices, and access controls.

Preferred Experience:

  • Direct experience modernizing or migrating legacy .NET Framework and VBScript applications to Java, cloud-native, or modern enterprise architectures.
  • Experience supporting laboratory, test-cell, dynamometer, manufacturing-test, or engineering-test environments.
  • Experience developing or supporting software for automotive test stands, instrumentation systems, or real-time test environments.
  • Experience integrating vendor-supplied data-acquisition and test-automation platforms through APIs, SDKs, and instrument-control protocols such as GPIB, CAN, Modbus, VISA, or OPC UA.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence tools to software modernization, code migration, code refactoring, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, or test-data analytics.
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture, containerization, infrastructure automation, observability, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working with secure, segmented, isolated, or production-sensitive technology environments.
  • Familiarity with automotive product development, vehicle testing, component testing, certification, or laboratory operations.
