The Body Control Module (BCM) or Body/Zonal Module functional scope consists of 300+ features/functions. In current Ford electrical architectures, it is a central electronic control unit which incorporates a fused electrical bus center, for power distribution within a single module. In other electrical architecture concepts, the body functionality may manifest in an integrated design with other functionality or it may manifest in a single module with the power distribution responsibility omitted. Regardless of the physical manifestation, the core content remains essentially the same as well as the disciplines used to develop and validate it.
What you'll do...
Become acquainted with all Ford Motor Company product appropriate specifications related to Body Module component design
Lead interface to clarify Ford requirements with suppliers
Lead interface to other Ford internal stakeholders (purchasing, quality, and vehicle platforms)
Conduct vehicle system compatibility reviews
Lead troubleshooting efforts identified to root cause product related issues (build, plant, field, etc.)
Release core BCM/Zonal parts and Diagnostic Specification within Ford’s Worldwide Engineering Release System (WERS)
Understanding of the 4-phase development process; Phase 1 Concept Development, Phase 2 Engineering Verification of the Concept, Phase 3 Engineering Design for Production, and Phase 4 Production Realization & Verification
Support BCM/Zonal application engineers globally
Investigate the feasibility of requested new features affecting Body Module hardware
Analyze design options for cost, quality and reliability trade-offs
Oversee the development and release of the component level Engineering Test Specification or ES
Oversee the development and shepherd the plan through release and supplier execution of the EMC test. The EMC Test plan is a separate test plan that must be developed by the supplier, reviewed and approved by the Body Modules Core Hardware Engineer
Overall responsible for the hardware design
Responsible for authoring the hardware specification
Responsible for shepherding the hardware design through Worst Case Circuit Analysis and working to resolve all issues identified
Responsible for the Device Transmittal development and release
Prepare design verification (DVP) and process validation (PVP) test plans
Review DV and PVP&R’s to ensure compliance to specification; ultimate sign-off authority
Lead reviews when failures are noted
Develop plans, w/ supplier, to resolve failures or initiate deviations as appropriate
Perform reliability evaluations of components using established procedures (FMEA, Stress Analysis, Failure Rate Analysis)
Prepare and lead design review meetings
Analyze and comprehend system requirements and program needs
Interface with multi-disciplinary team of engineers, customers and vendors to discuss existing and potential new projects
Use technical and engineering acumen to review and analyze the supplier’s analysis results from simulation and verification of analog and digital hardware and firmware
Represent the Body Modules team during management/vehicle program reviews to explain or defend technical findings and technical recommendations
Participate in the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) team(s) for the Global BCM/Zonal product
You'll have...
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in electronic circuit design or similar experience
Experience reading automotive electrical distribution schematics
Thorough understanding of analog and digital hardware systems as applied to automotive control systems
An understanding of EMC specifications and EMC mitigation techniques
Understanding of the various product development milestones and guidelines in taking a product from concept into mass production
Understanding engineering analysis methods and interpreting the results to convey this information to others. Previous use of MathCAD for Worst Case Analysis is desirable or other simulation tools.
Proficient in setting up and using laboratory test equipment such as multi-meters, scopes, logic analyzer, power analyzer
Critical thinking and dealing with complex problems to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions
Active and continuous learning to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making
Excellent speaking and writing skills to convey information efficiently and effectively
Experience with PCB manufacturing processes
Familiar with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

Master’s in Electrical Engineering preferred
10+ years of experience preferred
Preferred skills: Experience with MS Office, Vector tools such as CANalyzer, use of an oscilloscope and other troubleshooting tools; experience with Ford product development system applications is a plus (WERS, AVBOM, PPM Audit, Digital Buck, Team Center, Integrator)

This position is a range of salary grades 6-8 and ranges from $74,300-$166,200.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
