We are looking for a skilled Design and Release Engineer to lead the lifecycle of Body Exterior components and accessories, from Grilles, Facias, custom Door and Fender Badging, and more. This role requires a blend of high-performance Engineering expertise and strong Project Management skills. You’ll be the champion for our Global CUV, SUV, and Truck programs—driving customer loyalty and sales by delivering the specialized commodities that define the modern Ford experience

  • Design, Develop, Release, and Test Body Exterior products for Production (in plant and/or Mod-Center) and Dealer Accessory programs
  • Design, Develop, Release and Validate other potential exterior products as requested by marketing.

  • Investigate and develop ideas for new product offerings

  • Maintain all existing Body Exterior accessories for all platforms – creating and maintaining all bill of materials for all vehicle lines for each commodity

  • Support compliance with Ford requirements, DVP&Rs, FMEAs, and sign-off as required

  • Support Dealer Service questions on Body Exterior accessories.

  • Interface with Planning, Program Management, Vehicle Programs and other teams.

  • Support program PMT meetings and Engineering meetings for all Body Exterior products.

  • Work with Supplier and/or FEDE Core team in support of Commodity documents, Design Rules, Requirements, and Foundation Documents (Boundary Diagrams, Interface Listings, P-Diagrams, DFMEA’s, Robustness Check Lists, SCCAF

  • Perform and document Model Year Carryover Assessment’s for Body Exterior components using Team Center, TcVis Mockup, WERS, WOW, PDO, iPDL

  • Develop and coordinate Instruction Sheets for Dealer installation of our Genuine Ford Accessories.The Instruction Sheet development will require in-depth development with Team Center, TcVis Mockup, and Power Point

  • Coordinate Instruction Sheet Validation Fit-up with local team members.Support and order the Fitment parts in GPIRS_J.Follow and track the orders through the GPRIS_J payment process.

  • Coordinate and complete Cost, Feasibility, and Timing (CFT) for Body Exterior components for all platforms.  Required for Cost, Feasibility, and Timing is CAD package studies in Team Center and TcVis Mockup, initial Excel Bill of Material, Preliminary Illustrated Bill of Material.  Interface with PD Body Exterior Engineering for feasibility analysis.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5+ years of Product Development Experience Designing and Releasing Body exterior components from Conception to Vehicle Assembly 

  • 3+ years of Expertise with Plastic Design and Manufacturing 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Ford Product Development Process (GPDS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of automotive networks – WERS, Team Center, TcVis Mockup

  • Experience with CAD, physical schematics, Illustrated process illustrations

  • Technical aptitude, desire to learn

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage multiple suppliers and commodities (multitask)

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teams
